Chaise Lounging

Chaiselounges always make me think of rich, ancient Greeks lounging around the Romanforum while they nibble on grapes and sip huge goblets of wine.

Not muchhas changed many millennia later, except, along with my grapes and wine I amlikely to curl up on my chaise with several high-tech gadgets – cell phone,laptop, remote control for the TV!

Theseone-piece lounge chairs are a welcome change of pace from a chair and ottoman combination. They have beautifully sleek, soothinglines that work well in master and guest bedrooms, home offices, dens and sun rooms.

I havecreated Family Room sectionals with a chaise at both ends and astraight sofa in the middle so everyone can watch TV with their feet up.  In a smaller space, like a den,many of our clients love  apair of chaises with a drinks table  nestled in between.

For ease ofaccess I prefer a one-armed chaise, either left or rightdepending how you approach it to sit down.  Witha two-armed chaise, you need to sit at the end of the chaise and “wiggle” yourrear end until your back is resting on the back of the chaise. A bit harder ifyou are not spry!

Chaises areperfect for reading, getting someafter-hours work done on the computer or chatting on the phone, and if you havetwo of them you can stretch out side-by-side with family or friends and getcaught up. In my old house my favorite place to chat with my kids, Mattand Kelsey, was stretched out on the pair of chaises in the den. There are a wide range of styles, and don’t forget, many manufacturers willcustomize the length if you need your chaise to be longer or shorter based onthe height of your family members. Kind of like a bed, it is not comfortable ifyour feet hang off!
