Lacquered, bright and colorful, painted rattan furniture is just plain fun for indoor décor and very much on-trend – color is definitely back in a big way.

I really like these pieces for a vibrant pop of color in a room where you don’t want to make a huge commitment. Just add an occasional table or a side chair and wait for the compliments.

Most of us think of rattan furniture for outdoor patios, but is light and more durable than you think, so it is suitable for any room – even the kids’! In fact, rattan is an approved material for home building in some areas of the world. Not only is it a beautiful and versatile but rattan is a “green” building material, which we love at Sweet Peas Design. Some fun facts about rattan courtesy of the World Wildlife Fund website:
- It is a naturally renewable palm that typically grows in hilly tropical areas of Africa, Asia and Australia.
- It provides an alternative to logging timber in areas where forests are scarce. In fact, it grows best under a tree canopy. How cozy!
- Would you believe that scientists have pioneered a process to make artificial bone from rattan? They already have implanted it in sheep. Talk about strength!
